Deborah Miles-Johnson

A thoroughly established artist, Deborah has worked with most of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle (Stravinsky's Requiem Canticles) and Sir Georg Solti (Mozart's Don Giovanni) in Germany. She has frequently broadcast for the BBC including the lead role in Handel's Il Parnasso in Festa, whilst El Amor Buio by De Falla with the New London Chamber Orchestra was broadcast by Classic FM. She performed Bach's St Matthew Passion with Trevor Pinnock and the English Concert in Europe, Istanbul and Japan - a work she also performed at the prestigious Backwoche with Andrew Parrott and the Norsk Barokkorkester. Recent highlights are Mahler's Symphony No 8 at the Royal Albert Hall, and performing the role of Fricka (Das Rheingold in concert.

Active in the contemporary repertoire, Deborah took the part of Caroline in Henze's Elegy for young Lovers at 3 days notice for Radio France. Other performances include the premiere of Brian Elias's Laments with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Jean Barraque's ...au dela du hasard with Klangforum in Vienna, Philip Glass's Satyagraha at the Royal Festival Hall and one of the secretaries in the London premiere of John Adams' Nixon in China with Kent Nagano and the LSO at the Barbican. She made her Wigmore Hall debut in George Benjamin's Upon Silence with the viol group Fretwork following performances in Geneva, and subsequently revisited the Hall for a recital with clarinettist Colin Bradbury.

Deborah's commercial recordings include an excerpt from Carmen with Gerald Finlay on his recent recital disc, Arvo Pärt's Stabat Mater, Maxwell Davies' Resurrection, Carl Rütti's Magnificat and the roles of Betty Doxy (The Beggars Opera) and the Converse (Suor Angelica) for EMI.
