Born in Liverpool, Nicholas was a chorister at the city's Metropolitan Cathedral and a Choral Scholar at Clare College, Cambridge (where he gained a first in Modern Languages) before joining the Royal Academy of Music's Opera Programme, where he is studying with Philip Doghan and Jonathan Papp. In rapidly increasing demand, Nicholas's recent engagements have included his BBC Proms debut in Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 with Robert King and The King's Consort, Berlioz's L'Enfance du Christ in King's College Chapel, Cambridge, Janacek's Otcenas in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, Bach's Magnificat with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (also BBC Radio 3), Bach's St John Passion (Evangelist) with The Hanover Band, Mozart's Requiem with the London Mozart Players, Rautavaara's Vigilia for Stephen Layton, Messiah in Edinburgh's Usher Hall and concerts for Her Majesty's Sackbuts and Cornetts. Nicholas also has an ever-expanding recital repertoire that has already included performances of Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte for the Oxford Lieder Festival, Finzi's A Young Man's Exhortation for the Windsor Fringe, Schumann's Liederkreis Opus 39, Britten's Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo and Schubert Die Schöne Müllerin. His opera work has included the roles of Ferrando (Cosi fan tutte) and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) for Opera Works, Belfiore in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera for RAO, le Chevalier de la Force in Les Dialogues des Carmelites in Poland, and the title role in Milhaud's Le Pauvre Matelot for New Professionals.
